Buyer clicks

Buyer clicks are clicks from searches that show intent to hire, buy or check a price, such as "gutter repair near me" or "gutter guard installation cost". They leave out how-to questions and brand searches. Tracking them shows whether SEO work is reaching people who might become customers, which total clicks and impressions can hide.

What it doesn't do: Buyer clicks only count searches Google names. Hidden-query clicks can't be classified, so page totals stay the fuller measure of traffic.

How it shows up in RankUpside

The 13-week chart sets buyer clicks against all clicks. Sample data: Copperline Gutters, a fictional business on a reserved .example domain. It had 27 buyer clicks in four weeks against 22 before (+23%), out of 289 total clicks.

The report summary says "27 clicks from named buyer searches" and, right after, that Google hides the search terms behind 84% of all 289 search clicks. The striking distance and Losing rank findings work on buyer searches.

How to check it yourself

  1. Export queries from Search Console.
  2. Keep rows with hire, buy, price or local words.
  3. Remove rows with the client's name.
  4. Add up the clicks.

Common mistakes

  • Calling every non-brand click a buyer.
  • Comparing buyer clicks with total clicks without saying how many clicks Google hides.

Buyer clicks: questions.

Why track buyer clicks instead of total clicks?
Total clicks rise with blog traffic that rarely turns into customers. Buyer clicks follow the searches that lead to calls, quotes and sales, so they show whether SEO work is reaching people ready to buy.
Why are buyer clicks so much lower than total clicks?
Two reasons. Many clicks come from informational searches, and Google hides the search terms behind a large share of clicks, which can't be classified at all. RankUpside says "clicks from named buyer searches" and states the hidden share right after it for that reason.
Can I change which searches count as buyers?
You set each client's services, areas and brand terms in client settings. Those decide which searches count as local, service and brand searches.
