SEO audit report template

An SEO audit report should open with a short summary and a ranked fix list, then cover indexing, search performance, on-page elements, technical health, content, links and local presence, each with evidence. Copy the free outline below. RankUpside fills the indexing, search performance, page-check and fix-list sections from Google data; the rest needs a crawler.

What it doesn't do: RankUpside isn't a site crawler. It doesn't measure page speed, Core Web Vitals or backlinks, and it audits clients connected through Search Console, not prospects.

The template.

Nine sections, each with what to check. The four marked sections fill from Google data in RankUpside; the other five need a crawler, a speed tool or a backlink tool, and your judgment.

SEO audit report

Site: {domain} · Audited: {date} · Prepared by: {agency}

  1. Summary and top 5 fixes

Three sentences on the site's state, then the five fixes worth most, each with its page.

  2. IndexingRankUpside fills this

Pages that should be in Google but aren't, with Google's stated reason and the last crawl date.

Example /locations/westbrook: discovered, not indexed, never crawled.

  3. Search performanceRankUpside fills this

Clicks, impressions, average position and buyer clicks for the last period, plus the share of clicks whose search terms Google hides.

Example 289 clicks, 27 from buyer searches, 84% with no search term shown.

  4. On-pageRankUpside fills this

For pages with a problem: title, H1, meta description, canonical and noindex.

Example /blog/gutter-tiger-stripes-fairview: the title names a city nobody searched.

  5. Technical

Crawl errors, page speed, Core Web Vitals and mobile layout, from a crawler and Google's speed tools.

  6. Content

Thin, outdated or overlapping pages, and pages losing rank to newer ones.

  7. Links

Internal links into the pages that matter, and the backlink profile from a backlink tool.

  8. Local

Business Profile completeness, map pack presence for the main services, and city pages.

  9. Fix list ranked by impact and effortRankUpside fills this

Every fix with its page, the evidence, the expected gain, how sure you are, and the effort. Most valuable first.

Example 1. Brands comparison losing rank. 2. Map pack on gutter guard searches. 3. City in a how-to title.

Sample dataExample lines come from a fictional gutter company. RankUpside isn't a crawler: technical, content, backlink and local profile sections stay manual.

Which tool fills which section.

An audit draws on several tools. Here is where each section's evidence comes from, and which ones RankUpside fills for clients connected through Search Console.

Each audit section, its data source and whether RankUpside fills it
SectionData sourceFilled by RankUpside?
IndexingGoogle URL Inspection, pages with impressions in the last 13 weeks, rechecked about every 14 daysYes
Search performanceSearch Console: 13 weeks on connect, synced every WednesdayYes
On-pagePage check of title, H1, meta description, headings, internal links, canonical and noindexYes, on pages with findings
TechnicalA site crawler and Google's PageSpeed toolsNo
ContentA crawler and your judgmentPartly: the Losing rank and Healthy drop findings
LinksInternal links: page check. Backlinks: a backlink toolInternal links on fix pages only; backlinks no
LocalWeekly live check from the client's city; Business ProfileMap pack presence yes; Business Profile metrics once Google approves access
Fix listEvery finding, ranked by value at stake, confidence and effortYes

Rank findings by what's at stake.

Each fix gets a value at stake (clicks a better position would earn, priced at cost per click), a confidence (a cause seen on a live check counts in full, an inferred one less) and an effort (a title change counts 1×, Business Profile work 2×). The list is value × confidence ÷ effort. More on ranked fixes.

Indexing section example.

Google's URL Inspection gives a verdict per page. RankUpside inspects pages that had search impressions in the last 13 weeks, revenue pages first, and rechecks each about every 14 days. See page indexing.

Write each finding as evidence plus fix.

Five fields per finding, every time. The last one stops the wrong fix: here, a title rewrite on a page where an AI Overview answers the search.

One audit finding written as page, evidence, why it matters, fix and what not to change
Page/blog/french-drain-vs-catch-basin-pop-up-emitter-fairview
What we saw372 impressions, 0 clicks, average position 7.9 across 9 how-to and comparison searches.
Why it mattersGoogle answers these searches on the results page, so ranking higher won't bring the clicks back by itself.
FixMake this page the source the AI answer cites: a direct answer first, real numbers, FAQ markup. Or aim it at buyer searches.
What not to changeAnother title rewrite won't help.

After the audit.

The fix list doesn't end with the audit. Each fix can be started, marked done with a note, or dismissed, and done fixes are tracked for 8 weeks against the whole site's trend. Starts with one read-only Google sign-in. No card.

Audit questions.

What should an SEO audit report include?
A summary with the top fixes, then indexing, search performance, on-page elements, technical health, content, links and local presence. Every finding needs its evidence, its likely impact and the fix.
How do I prioritize SEO audit findings?
Rank each by the clicks or revenue at stake, how sure you are of the cause, and the effort to fix it. A small fix on a page with many impressions usually beats a large project on a page few people see.
Can RankUpside run a full SEO audit?
No. It fills the indexing, search performance, page-check and fix-list sections from Google data for clients connected through Search Console. Crawling, page speed and backlinks need other tools.
How often should a site be audited?
A full audit once or twice a year, or before a redesign or migration. Between audits, a weekly check of indexing, rankings and click changes catches most problems early.
What's the difference between an SEO audit and an SEO report?
An audit is a one-off review of everything that could hold a site back. A report is a regular update on what moved and what you did about it. The fix list connects them.
