How it shows up in RankUpside
It shows up in two places. The first is the AI answer finding. It fires on a page where how, what, why or vs searches at positions 1 to 10.5 make up at least half of its impressions, with at least 300 impressions and 0.5% click-through or less.
Sample data: Copperline Gutters, a fictional business on a reserved .example domain. A post about "catch basin vs pop up emitter" had 372 impressions and 0 clicks at #7.9 across 9 searches. The fix is to get the page cited in the overview or aim it at buyer searches. A title rewrite won't help.
The second is the weekly live rank check. It records whether an AI Overview showed (present, absent or unknown), which domains it cited and whether it cited the client. When it already cites the client, the finding says to count it as visibility.
How to check it yourself
- Search the query in a clean browser from the client's area.
- Look for the AI Overview block at the top and expand its sources.
- Note whether the client's domain is among the links. Repeat another day: it changes.
Google says AI Overviews "are only shown when our systems determine that it is additive to classic Search", and that traffic from AI features is reported in Search Console's Performance report within the "Web" search type (AI features and your website).
